Downtown Fort Wayne, Art This Way, and Friends of the Rivers Invite the Public to a New Mural Dedication Event at Promenade Park During Clean Drains Fest
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Friends of the Rivers is hosting the annual Clean Drains Fest on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Promenade Park. A mural dedication and recognition of Clean Drains muralists will be held at 1:00 p.m.
The muralist, Alexandra Hall, has helped Friends of the Rivers manage the drain art mural program, which has brought educational sidewalk murals to Fort Wayne. This is the final year of the sidewalk mural initiative, and Friends of the Rivers decided to fund a Legacy Mural that would continue to carry on the environmental awareness and educational mission. The 2,000-square-foot project will be installed at TJ Nowak Supply, 302 West Superior Street, directly adjacent to Promenade Park in Downtown Fort Wayne.
There was an open call for paid apprentices to help with the project, and five local artists were selected to help with the mural project. Karen Bulmahn, Laura Monnier, Bonnie Andrews, Debbie Kuntz, and Lily Martin. Many of the apprentices are also Clean Drains muralists, and all have a strong arts background.
“Public art has transformed our Downtown, and it is an honor to contribute to the collection of work in this community,” stated Clean Drains muralist Hall. “Artwork is a wonderful mechanism for storytelling and education. Our waterways are such a valuable regional asset, and I am happy to help share the story of the work City Utilities, Friends of the Rivers, and other partners have done to keep our waterways clean for future generations.”
Locally, Hall is most known for her work as the director of Art This Way, a program of Downtown Fort Wayne. This will be Hall’s fourth large-scale work of public art in Fort Wayne.
This mural is powered by Friends of the Rivers, Downtown Fort Wayne, TJ Nowak Supply, and sponsors of Friends of the Rivers. Clean Drains: Be River SmART project Co-Chairs Nancy Stewart and Irene Walters would like to express their appreciation for working with Alex Hall, the epitome of dedication and professionalism.
